New Prizewinning Handmade Walking Sticks by John Rennie15 June 2015 | Admin It's not every week that we bring you a completely new line of walking sticks at the Stick and Cane Shop, but we are delighted to announce that we have a range of gorgeous hand-crafted walking sticks, made in Scotland, by prizewinning craftsman, John Rennie.
John Rennie, from Torphichen, West Lothian, Scotland, won seven awards at the 2014 Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh. The array of awards for the Shepherd Crooks and Walking Sticks section of the show were for the range of Shepherd's Crooks he made by hand. Award for Beautiful Shepherd's Crook Craftsmanship at the Royal Highland ShowCommenting on his achievement, he stated: "I couldn’t believe it, no one has ever won that many prizes. I had to sit down when I found out. On the day I was the best.” However, having spent 20 years honing his skills in his home workshop, he is certainly a master craftsman who deserves those awards and recognition for the outstanding quality and beauty of his canes.

Beautiful prizewinning Handmade Shepherd's Crooks - New at The Stick & Cane ShopHand Carved Buffalo Horn Shepherds Crook with Thistle on Hazel Shaft The superb Shepherds Crook features a hand carved Rams Horn handle adorned with a thistle mounted on a beautiful long hazel shaft. This is a long stick that comes to around upper-abdomen height. This beautiful country walking stick is hand made by John Rennie of Torphicen, a prize winning stick maker of many years standing, who won seven 1st prizes at the Highland Show in 2014. The shaft is made from the traditional country wood, hazel, which is prized for its interesting sheen and colour and is left with its natural bark for that authentic country look. The handle is hand carved from Buffalo Horn a painstaking process which takes approximately 35 hours. As Rams Horn has become increasingly difficult to get, buffalo horn has become more popular. Although predominantly black when polished, you will often find white flecks or streaks, also smoky blues and greys will appear in some horns. Polished to a high gloss.

This is a long stick that comes to around upper-abdomen height. This beautiful country walking stick is hand made by John Rennie of Torphicen, a prize winning stick maker of many years standing. The shaft is made from the traditional country wood, hazel, which is prized for its interesting sheen and colour. The handle is hand carved Spalted Beech with its unique zone lines and the Hazel shaft is left with a natural bark finish for that authentic country look.

Hand Carved Staghorn Handle Walking Stick with Fishing Fly Decal The Staghorn Handle Walking Stick is ideal for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, featuring a gorgeous hazel shaft and a staghorn crown handle topped with fishing fly embedded in resin decal. This beautiful country walking stick is hand made by prizewinning stick maker John Rennie of Torphichen. The shaft is made from the traditional country wood, hazel, which is prized for its interesting sheen and colour and is left with its natural bark for that authentic country look.
The staghorn handle is made from stag horn collected by gamekeepers from stags that shed their antlers annually. The horn is ground, sanded and polished before being fitted to a natural wooden shaft. No animals were harmed in the collection of the horn.
