Country and Rustic Walking Sticks

In the British countryside, walking sticks are carried by people of all ages as they walk their dogs, follow country sports and even herd their sheep. A rustic walking stick is an indispensible accessory in the country, helping its owner up hill and down dale, through mud, stinging nettles and brambles. Simple hiking staffs are popular for country walks; thumbsticks (held with the user's thumb resting in the natural 'V' in the wood), shepherd's crooks and knobsticks are all traditional favourites and are frequently given as presents. A well-used country stick becomes a muck loved friend and companion.

How to measure someone for a walking stick.

Please note that shortened sticks will be fitted with a rubber ferrule and are non - returnable.

To measure someone for a walking stick, ask them to stand with their weight evenly on both feet, looking straight ahead and with their arms relaxed by their sides. You then need to measure from the floor to the prominent bone of the wrist. This is the length of walking stick required. Please note this is just a rule of thumb. If the person has special needs, they may need to be measured by a medical professional. Alternatively they may have personal preferences for a longer or shorter walking stick.

We measure our sticks from the top curve of the handle, where to palm rests to the bottom of the ferrule. We cut the stick 0.5cm shorter than the length required to allow for the depth of rubber in the ferrule.
